Wheat for Special Purpose Biopolymers

Wheat for Special Purpose Biopolymers (KVIETPOLIMER)

Implementation period: 2007 – 2009

Participating institutions and persons: Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture (dr. Vytautas Ruzgas, dr. G.Brazauskas), Institute of Biotechnology, AB „Malsena“, UAB „Dotnuvos projektai“

Project manager: dr. Vytautas Ruzgas

Financed by: LVMSF

Purpose of the project: To develop using molecular biology and combinatory breeding methods wheat species and lines of increased resistance to pathogens. Such species and lines should be developed for processing industry and shall be suitable for production of bioethanol and specialized starch. Also, to investigate polymorphism and chemical properties of their genomes and to identify genes controlling synthesis of various types of starch.
