Integration of Cellular and Molecular Biology into the Process of Development of Cultivated Plants Strains

Implementation period: 2001 – 2003

Project manager: habil. dr. I.Pašakinskienė

Participating institutions and persons: Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture (habil. dr. I. Pašakinskienė, dr. G.Dabkevičienė, dr. B.Basiulienė, dr. G. Brazauskas, dr. V. Ruzgas, dr. A.Leistrumaitė, dr. V. Paulauskienė, dr.R. Asakavičiūtė), Vilnius University (dr. Vida Karvelienė), Institute of Biotechnology (habil. dr. Kęstutis Sasnauskas), Institute of Botanics (dr. Financed by: LVMSF

Purposes of the Project:

  1. To restore fertility of clover interspecies hybrids (Trifolium pratense x Trifolium diffusum);
  2. To compare isoelectroforentic spectra of DNA, proteins, and isoferments in clover species and interspecies hybrids;
  3. To improve effectiveness of production of wheat haploids in cross-breeding with maize.
  4. To improve production of barley haploids from pollinate cultures.
  5. To study phenotypical recombinants of Lolium multiflorum x Festuca arundinacea hybrids using in situ hybridization (FISH) method.
