Genetic Variability of Adaptive

Genetic Variability of Adaptive, Reproductive, and Quality Characteristics of a Spruce: Molecular Markers and Optimization of Breeding

Implementation period: 2006-2010

Project manager: dr. Rimvydas Gabrilavičius

Participating institutions: Lithuanian Forest Research Institute

Purposes of the Project:

  1. To determine genetic variability of adaptive, reproductive, and timber quality characteristics of a spruce,
  2. To perform a search for genetic material required for molecular marker studies
  3. To determine the link between molecular markers and phenotypic characteristics
  4. To investigate effects of changing environmental conditions on the rhythm of growing of trees,
  5. To optimize the distance of transfer of populations,
  6. To analyze computer optimization of genetic material selection from seed plantations
