Definition of biotechnology

Biotechnology is the usage of biological processes for the creation of technologies (FAO, 2004). Plant biotechnology developed in the following main directions: genomics and epigenetics, genetic engineering, genetic diversity, micropropagation. Biotechnology is the technological process using biological systems, living organisms or their derivatives for the production of products, their amendment or application for specific needs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biotechnology). The same title is also given to the field of science, which joins the possibilities of biology and technologies. Currently biotechnology describes manipulation with living organisms seeking to meet the needs of the human kind and to discover new solutions for problems which were faced long ago.
