Laboratory of Eukaryote Genetic Engineering

Head of the laboratory: prof. habil. dr. Kęstutis Sasnauskas.

Producers of recombinant yeast, producing structural proteins of various viruses, are created in the laboratory. Applying this method the following recombinant structural proteins have already been received: measles, mumps, hepatitis B, German measles, hydrophobia, parainfluenza, human syncytium virus, hantaviruses, Nipah, Hendra, Menangle viruses and etc. It was established that viral proteins, forming virus-like particles (VPD), have similar anti-gene structure to that of virus anti-genes, therefore, they are suitable for the creation of new generation vaccines and diagnostic reagents. New data was received on immunology of chimerical VPD, on the basis of which a method was created for the creation of focussed specification mono-clone antibodies in cooperation with the scientists from Immunology and cell biology laboratory.
