Laboratory of bioinformatics

Laboratory of bioinformatics (head Dr C. Venslovas). In the era of post-genomics, bioinformatics plays more and more important role in biology researches. New technological discoveries provide access to many various biological data, such as sequences of various organism sequenced genomes, data of gene expression, data of protein-protein interaction, etc. Bioinformatics, by allowing to conduct analysis of high amount of data, provides the logical results of all this mass of biology information. In addition, specialists of bioinformatics use these data in order to improve various analytic and forecasting methods that could assist in raising specific biology problems. Newly established Laboratory of Bioinformatics focuses on studies in two ways:

  1. Modeling of proteins, analysis and evaluation of their structure as well as creation of comparison methods.
  2. Application of computer methods in order to describe structures of individual proteins and their complexes/interactions. The main focus is on proteins that interact with DNA, especially on those that act during DNA replication, correction and recombination.

The main research includes creation involves the creation and experimentation of comparison methods of proteins, analysis and evaluation of protein structure as well as application of molecular modeling in the stages of proteins that act in the DNA metabolization.

Specialists of bioinformatics laboratory can provide assistance in creation of models of plant-pest interaction, analysis of protein sequences and dimensional structures and in conduction of theoretical research in molecular level.
